Talking about money can be stressful and even intimidating. It’s something BTR and I had to learn to work through over the years, we got married young and combined all of our accounts early. We didn’t have much of a plan beyond building our house, we just wanted to make ends meet.

Once we started learning more about money, we started setting goals and trying to achieve them. And now one of our favorite things to talk about is finances and planning for our future. The more you learn the more it becomes a hobby! Right now our biggest goals are saving for a family vacation this summer and long term we are saving for a house.

I’m so excited to be partnering with Spruce, which is a new mobile banking platform to help people learn and be more effective with their money and goals! I really wish something like this existed when we were younger and didn’t know as much about finances. Although this is a new platform, it is built by H&R Block based on years of experience.

Because Spruce is a mobile banking app, it’s easy to use and has loads of amazing features like setting up saving goals, automatic cash back reward offers2 when you shop at select retailers, and no sign-up or monthly fees1. Plus, when you set up direct deposit within Spruce you can even get paid up to two days early3!

One of my favorite parts of the Spruce app is that I can see my credit score for free4! I’m always proud of my high credit score, and more importantly that it’s higher than Brandon’s credit score! Ok, I’m kidding he also has excellent credit, but mine is usually a few points higher and I won’t let him forget that – hah!

Ok back to that beach vacation!

With my Spruce debit card, I’m earning cash back on everyday purchases and putting that towards my saving goals. Within the app I’m able to set up two separate saving goals within my Savings account, right now I have one set up called a safety net (for any unexpected expenses) and the second is our vacation fund!

Brandon and I have a monthly budget and goals like putting some money towards our retirement and college savings for the boys, but then we can see what is left over for saving for our beach trip! Plus any cash back from my Spruce debit card purchases at select retailers can be applied straight to my Spruce savings account so I can apply to a goal of mine.

I love how easy it is to see what I’m spending, what I’m saving, and how to plan accordingly. Spruce helps me stay organized and makes my goals more achievable. This way getting my feet in the sand becomes a reality sooner than later!
I’m so excited about our family’s financial goals and using Spruce to help me visualize those and get there faster.

So what is your family saving for right now? A trip? A new house or a new car? Let’s set some goals and get there together!
