Who remembers their favorite cereal from when they were a kid? I was more of a cereal as a snack kind of person, but that didn’t stop me from having a few favorites.
And one of them just happens to be back in stores! Oreo O’s are BACK and I’m so excited about it!
While these are great for breakfast, Jude and I thought it would be more fun to make a snack with them!
We picked up the Oreo O’s at our local Walmart the other day along with our other ingredients to make our snack. And while we were there we also grabbed some Honey Maid S’mores cereal. Because you can never have enough cereal with two little ones!
We headed home and got to cooking during Ezra’s nap time.
My first tip when making this recipe is to not burn the butter. Because I totally didn’t do that. #liarliar My second tip is to use cooking spray. On everything. Everything.
I probably could have saved myself some dirty dishes, but I wanted to let Jude mix the melted marshmallows with the cereal so I poured it into a separate bowl so I didn’t have to worry about him touching the hot pan.
Next we took our mixed up cereal and marshmallows and poured them into a jelly roll pan. I let Jude use waxed paper (greased up!) to press it all out. I didn’t want to use a regular cake pan because I wanted these to be thinner than regular treats. You’ll see why in a minute.
I threw the pan in the fridge to harden faster than if it were sitting out on our counter. After it hardened we took it out and I cut the pan into bars using a serrated knife.
And then we got started on the next step.
Melted. Chocolate. Yup we dunked those bars into some melted chocolate!
I actually can’t remember how much chocolate I ended up using total, so the amount below is an estimate. I say start with a little bit and melt more as you need it. Plus the hotter it is the easier it is to dip.
After dipping I laid them on another pan lined with wax paper and put them in the freezer to harden the chocolate.
And my cooking assistant stole a few bites in between dipping!
Once the chocolate hardens these are ready to eat!
