I’m not sure about you, but even though Jude was only 2 when Ezra was born, I still pretty much forgot everything about newborns. Like at the hospital the first time I fed Ezra, the nurse had to remind to burp him. Talk about embarrassing! Another thing I forgot was how to stock my diaper changing area. Newborn diaper needs are so much different than 2-year-old diaper needs (at least in my opinion). So to save you the embarrassment I had, here is my list of what to put in your newborn changing station!
Diapers & Wipes
I completely forgot how tiny newborn diapers are. I was opening a package before Ezra arrived and I was sincerely shocked at how little they were compared to Jude’s diapers. Goodness, gracious! Also, you can never have enough diapers, so go ahead and buy a couple boxes, yes boxes. I recommend only buying a few newborn diapers and getting lots of size 1 diapers. You never know how big your baby will be (or fast they will grow) and in my experience, we weren’t in newborn size diapers very long. And with multiple sizes on hand, you are ready for any size baby! Oh and don’t forget the wipes. And more wipes. And more wipes. Just like diapers, you can never have too many wipes.
Playtex® Diaper Genie® Complete
You know all those diapers and wipes you just bought? Well, your baby is going to get them real dirty real quick and you’re going to need somewhere to put them. We already had one Diaper Genie that moved to Jude’s new room, but we automatically knew we would need a second one for the nursery. I LOVE the new Diaper Genie Complete and how easy it is to open with the foot pedal, it makes getting rid of dirty diapers quick and easy with one hand! It also has a built-in carbon filter inside the lid to help keep smells away. And the new Diaper Genie Complete has a front tilt bin so it’s super easy to change the bag when it’s full. And it will be full all the time.
And regardless of if you are having your first (or second or third), you should definitely start a baby registry at Target! They pretty much have everything you will need to stock your diaper changing station. And while you are there picking up your new Diaper Genie Complete, which is conveniently located in the diaper aisle next to the boxes of diapers you are already purchasing, you should also grab some Diaper Genie refills!
Changing Pad and Cover
This was one thing I totally forgot I would need two of, but you are probably going to need a second changing pad and cover(s) for it. This way we can have two rooms to change diapers and if one kid is sleeping in a room we can go to the other room!
Diaper Cream
Another thing you will definitely need is diaper cream. And if you are a little crazy like me then you will need multiple types of diaper cream to battle all types of diaper rashes!
Baby Lotion
Who can resist the sweet smell of baby lotion? I know I can’t! Get the big bottle, you won’t regret it!
Cotton Swabs and Saline
I love saline solution. I use it on Jude, on Ezra, even myself! It’s the best for loosening up boogers before using a snot sucker to get them out! And don’t forget cotton swabs to swipe around the ears.
Hand Sanitizer
This is an essential item in my opinion. Sometimes you change a dirty diaper but you can’t leave the baby unattended to run to the bathroom to wash your hands. Hand sanitizer to the rescue! Grab a couple bottles of this as well!
So there’s my basics list for the second baby changing station. I can honestly say we use each of these things on the list multiple times a day!
You all know how much I love a deal, right? Well from August 21 to September 3 there is a Target Cartwheel offer for Diaper Genie! Make sure to add it for next time you head to the store!
