I cannot believe it is almost time for back to school! While I’m really sad summer is ending (we are really going to miss having BTR home with us!), but I am excited to get back into a regular routine. Jude will be doing full-day preschool three days a week and that means he eats lunch at school!
One of the hardest parts of the school year is mornings. I am not a morning person at all. So I try and prep as much as possible the night before – backpacks, shoes, clothes, and now lunches! I also try and prep our breakfast ahead of time if possible!
One of the best ways to get the boys to eat something is to have them help me make it. And having them help in the kitchen is not easy or clean, but we always have a ton of fun! And that makes it totally worth it to me!
We headed to our neighborhood Schnucks and wouldn’t you know it, they just got the kid-sized carts. #ohyestheydid Since BTR was with us we let both boys get a cart (plus a cart for us because we needed eggs and no way I was letting them push those around) and we did our shopping. And then some because both boys added things when I wasn’t looking. It was a blast and we only ran into a few people. And yes I mean physically ran into. ?
After we loaded up the van we headed home to start baking!
Now Jude has been helping me in the kitchen for a while so he’s pretty good at pouring and mixing. But I haven’t been as adventurous with letting Ezra help until this time.
And oh boy was he a help. Kidding, he was not helpful at all.
This is real life where Ezra completely missed the bowl with the oats.
But you know what, we all had a ton of fun so it was totally worth it.
Now you can find the recipe we made here on the Schnucks website, but we added our own twist to it and added blueberries!
I love that it’s made with whole wheat flour and has oats and flaxseed in it. And yes we had to buy two containers of blueberries because Jude missed the cart with the first container of blueberries at the store.
Make sure and check out the August issue of Simply Schnucks for some fun recipes and lots of lunchbox ideas!
